Honeymoons in Thailand

Once you've selected Thailand as your honeymoon destination, the biggest dilemma you may have is deciding exactly where to stay. From the white sand beaches of the south to the lush green mountains of the north, Thailand has something to suit every honeymoon couple. With excellent internal air connections, it's relatively easy to visit a number of different locations during your stay. Alternatively, you may wish to base yourself in one area for the duration of your honeymoon.

Twin and Multi-Centre Honeymoons

For many couples, the ideal Thailand honeymoon involves a few days experiencing the sights and sounds of Bangkok combined with one or two weeks of total relaxation and indulgence on a Thai beach or island. If you are flying to or from Bangkok it provides an excellent opportunity to spend at least a few days in the Thai capital either at the start or end of your honeymoon. Bangkok can be a bewildering place to visit if you've never been to South-East Asia before, but it is full of fascinating places to experience. Bangkok is the main transport hub for Thailand and direct domestic flights are available to popular beach destinations in the south of the country such as Phuket, Krabi and Ko Samui.

Thailand's second city, Chiang Mai, provides a very pleasant contrast to Bangkok. Located in northern Thailand, Chiang Mai is one of the best places in the country to experience Thai culture and view ancient temples. Chaing Mai is also a great place to relax and is a destination renowned for traditional Thai massage, spa treatments and meditation centres.

Beach Honeymoons

If all you want to do is kick off your shoes and relax, you are spoilt for choice in Thailand. Romantic locations, delicious food and friendly Thai hospitality can be found at all of Thailand's beach resorts. The two most popular and developed islands are Phuket and Ko Samui, but these islands still have plenty of quiet and secluded spots if you want to avoid the crowds and night-life.

Suggested 2-week Itinerary

Arriving in Bangkok gives you the opportunity to spend a few days here and get over the effects of a long flight. Try and spend at least 3 full days in Bangkok which is enough time to tick off the 'must-do's', without having to rush around like mad things. From Bangkok, you could fly straight to a beach resort such as Ko Samui, Krabi or Phuket. This would give you 10 days to totally relax, enjoy the sea and take romantic strolls along the beach. Alternatively, you could fly from Bangkok to Chiang Mai and spend 3 or 4 days experiencing what the north of Thailand has to offer. With mountain scenery, a generally cooler climate and a rich cultural heritage, Chiang Mai is a very popular choice for weddings and honeymoons. So, with 3 days in Bangkok and 3 days in Chiang Mai, it still leaves you with a week on the beach. This gives you the chance to experience the north and south of Thailand as well as the Thai capital and will provide a wonderful contrast in experiences for your honeymoon.
